This should lead to a picture showing the mounting swivel

This picture is of the same NIVA but after Ronnie had sold it

Looks very good, I have been looking for a replacement for the badly designed one I got with the Lady, Mounted on body and bumper, with a self-closing gate latch to hold it (Did not work, on a 450km trip it opened about 7 times....

Hi guys

I'm thinking of making a spare wheel carrier that can be mounted on a tow hitch for a SideKick. Now I don't have a tow hitch, so I'm thinking of getting one fabricated. So please guys, I need your input and ideas on how to go about this. I'd also appreciate pictures of how tow hitches are mounted onto the Ladas.

Looking forward to the brainstorming :D

How about copying something like this:
http://www.ladapower.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=productdetails&virtuemart_product_id=1244&virtuemart_category_id=55

It looks relatvely simple to copy, and then you dont need to fit a towbar?

Thanks Conrad, that's a really good design. However, I'd like to have a towbar fitted, so, if I ever have to tow anything, I have it... the other reason is, if someone had to knock into me, they'll knock into the towbar. LOL

It's always handy to have a towbar, so it makes sense to fit one .

I modified a mitsubishi colt towbar to fit, and can honestly say it was more effort than it was worth.  If I could do it over, I  would buy a proper Niva towbar from someone who is stripping one.

Hi Dheer

You could speak to Len Govender, the owner of Specialized Welding in the Sydney Road area - you probably know about him. He owns two Ladas, and one has a towbar with wheel carrier which is a bit rusted. I think  there is a good chance that he will  part ways with the towbar, or he would have no problem if you want to have a look at the towbar. If you need Len's street address, I could have a look next week. The Lada with towbar is currently at the back of Len's workshop.

I welded 2 x 8mm bolts to the back of the towbar, so that i could use the existing bumper mounts.

I also modified the existing mounting brackets for the towbar so that they bolt to the recovery points at the back of the niva

And here it is being used to help a friend move house:
