Verushka's December 2018 trip
« on: January 22, 2019, 09:19:55 pm »
I'll post pictures later

25 December 2018
I decided to take the Lada Niva on a good holiday, went to Cape St Francis for 2 days at my mom's,

27 December 2018
drove to humansdorp and after putting in fuel, she wouldn't start, oh well that makes life interesting. nothing a push start can't cure. carried on to patensie to drop a radiator cap off at Willem, and then continued into the baviaanskloof. drove 3 hrs nice and slow to rooihoek and setup camp.

20-22

28 December 2018
left at 6am and drove through to Willowmore for fuel again...... lol.  drove the best dirt road to klaarstroom, no corrigations, not one. carried on up to Beaufort West and the karoo national park.

31 December  2018
had a visitor last night again 😀 and decided to sleep in, rather than go driving, so filter coffee for breakfast, went for a nice walk and some electrical maintenance on the ignition switch, and checked the oil and water while I am busy.

1 January 2019
arrived in Oviston, starter issues seem to be sorted, no further issues, lovely sounds of thunder in the air

2 January 2019
Nice little reserve they have here at Oviston, just a pity all the animals are very skittish, but I guess that is due to culling as there are no predators here

3 January 2019
drove through to Brandfort today, saw the black wildebeests that I was searching for for 2 days, an interesting arch bridge which caters for rail and road transport, and then fought a 60km/h head wind for 240km. also saw why they called it the ORANGE Free State.

8 January 2019
spent a few days with the family, found a masked man on the Lada Niva, celebrated a January birthday of my father 😁😉 drove through bells pass, finally arrived in bethlehem 2 millenniums and a couple of years late, 😂😂 drove to Drakensville, and went for a walk in the Royal natal park with my brother and his family.

10 January 2019
I said goodbye to the family and as I drove through the drakenberg, I couldn't help but think of my old varsity friend, Andrew Mackellar. I walked a short 2km trail at giant's Castle and was so out of breath, I thought I would die, the Lada Niva thought it was dieing as well in the thin, high altitude air, shame, she made it to himeville.

11 January 2019
had a great dinner last night at moorcroft manor, then had some fun driving through the construction site, inspecting some work 😂😂, gave 2 workers a lift to the next section, and then spent 4 min freezing at the top of sani pass.

3-4

14 January 2019
watched some cricket after sani pass, then went back to moorcroft manor for dinner, that is some of the best food I have ever eaten, and then packed up and drove the 850km home in 11.5hrs, and washed all the mud and dirt off

1-2

some stats from the trip:
19 days
3337 km
369.14 L of petrol @ R5150
9.03 km/L or 11.06L/100km

Here is a, wiki guide to using Photobucket.

It is time intensive to publish such an interesting trip with a number of images.
