Breedtsnek pass 27/08/2019
« on: August 01, 2019, 04:09:36 pm »
Hi All,

On Sunday we had our first LOCSA drive over Breedtsnek/Maanhaarand pass. We had 5 Ladas join and were about 12 people in total. Was and awesome trip with tons of adventures and a few "intermittent maintenance stops"

We all got together at a padstal just outside of Magalies where we got a coffee and something to eat while we waited for Remco who was running a bit late as always ::) [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Once finally on our way was a 15 min drive to the foot of the pass,on stopping we noticed we are one short ??? It was none other that Nestor who had broken down a few turns back with a fan belt that had fallen off. We duly sent our "Lada doctor", mr Bill van der Mescht to go help and both Ladas came back a few moments later after some quick repairs

We started up the foot of the mountain on the Maanhaarand side  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Not too long up the hill, just as we were getting the fun stuff we noticed we had lost our mate Nestor again  :o
After some well experienced reverse skills from Bill and us taking a walk down we found Nestor had broken down again. This time due to a radiator pipe on his newly rebuilt engine having melted on the exhaust, didnt take long for Nestor and Bill to get it up and running again though after scrounging for parts and tools that will work. I used the downtime to have a bit of a photo shoot with my newly painted coils and spotlights :- [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Once Nestor was up and running again we made our way up the pass at a leisurely pace, enjoying the beautiful scenery on the way up. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

When we got to the top we had a bit of a break and messed around a bit and having a lekker chat about the pass so far and Lada stuff in general, note Nestor's bonnet open again:-) [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Then as is customary we found a lekker spot to take a group pic and got the Ladas lined up [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Here is the group pic with the owners [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Making our way down we had another breakdown, Nestor's fan belt had climbed off again... As always a quick repair and we on the way again. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Once we had made our way to the foot of the pass on the other end we made a quick pit stop for provisions at the local "mall",as always Nestor's bonnet is open. I believe his bonnet cable connected to his handbrake as everytime he stops the bonnet flies open ;D ;D ;D [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

We made our way into Utopia nature estate and found a lekker spot by the pool [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Once the fire was started we had a lekker braai and a chat while Remco was showing off his rooftop tent. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

All done, we packed and headed home... or so we thought. Shawn and Mell's Lada decided to give in at that moment, there was no fuel to the carb,we spent another 45 mins getting her going again after the magic touch of dr. Bill! . We left when it was approaching dark .

Remco also broke down on the way home with fuel starvation problems, believe he only got home after 10PM.
