Nice to read nobody badly injured! (except the cow  :-[ ?) I have seen some Nivas after hitting a deer but never a animal big like cow. For that Niva looks good. If possible repair the car with some help. It looks like no main body is deformed, only secondary parts. Ans you had very big luck cow dont come up to windshield or roof. What speed you had been driving?
Here in Germany no insurance ever will take a Niva. There wont be a big difference in South Africa.
Just some weeks ago in Germany a 2006 Niva in very good technical condition was hit by a Porsche Chayenne (here some pics). Insurance paid only 300€ for it. A serviced gearbox alone costs about 450€.

all the best, Jakob

sorry for delayed replies, was a crazy busy week

@Umkulo/Herman I had Bridgestone Duelers on from the previous owner. They were a tad to big for the lada which meant less torque. I would rather go for the standard size if I could choose again

Yip the cow is now grazing in greener pastures...

What speed you had been driving?

I slowed down due to an oncoming car's lights blinding me a bit so I guess it was about 55km/h. I am very lucky the cow didnt come up to the windscreen yes!

Still waiting for the insurance to get back to me but sounds like thy want to write it off.

Does anyone here want to buy the lada if that happens? (will see if its possible to buy it back from the insurance). I need to start buying something more responsible as my primary means of transport, the lada's fuel efficency made me poor!
