Tailgate weight
« on: February 23, 2015, 08:35:00 am »
Hi,

Does anyone have the approximate weight of the 1700 tailgate with glass and fittings? I need to specify the weight to order struts from Diesel Electric. The units are pressurized at factory per weight.

Spikes, please remind me this evening and I will weigh Dodgy's one for you I can also check the struts on Sharkie to see what they are, they are standard Gabriels.

Pavel is always extremely helpful and very brave. He translated a message for me this morning in a flash for a parcel from Russia that (was) a bit stuck at JHB HUB. Google translate is sometimes a bit dodgy - so it had to be 100%.

Anyway Spikes you might have to get some adapters for non standard struts?

remember that the struts sit in the middle of the tailgate and therefore you have to take into account the lever force
I have a beautiful daughter,
i also have:
a shotgun
a shovel
an alibi

There should be a number on them which tells you their strenght. If Im not mistaken the original ones are 350N for a 1700 tailgate.

Hi Spikes...
sorry no idea of the tailgate weight.
Our kitchen scales only go up to 3kg. ;)
However...just to let you know that I replaced CERATOTH's tailgate struts about 5 years ago with  x 2  Gabriel Gaslift model # 4141-300709 (white in colour).
They are still working 100%.
Hope that this helps.
Regards to all at LOCSA.
Keith and CERATOTH.

The model number on mine is 4141-170210, thus I presume 4141 is the model and the last 6 digits are the date of manufacture

The units I fitted to the niva are pressurised for a 35kg load. The units Diesel Electric normally stock are 10kg 15kg, 20kg and 25kg rated. I  had to preorder for 35 kg.
