Hello everyone. Thank you so much for all your advice so far - it has really helped alot.
My husband says our Lada is idling at 2000 revs. What should we do to bring this down and what is the actual idling revs???

There are three thin rubber pipes connected to the throttle body. They tend to perish.  This cause errratic idling on the 1700i. Be careful when removing them as the plastic they push onto  may brake with rough handling. Replace them one by one so as not to confuse where each one goes. Then disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes (this resets the ECU)  Reconnect a take for a drive. Let us know if this sorted the issue out.

PS: fishtank pipes can be used if you can not find that diameter rubber pipe.
