I recommemd that all niva owners tell their story what they been doing and wat they currently doing on their niva. I learned and really enjoyed reading ari's blog about is niva.

So some time has passed and a lot has happened.

After fitting the engine and doing a test run. i took it for long drive to Groenkloof Pretoria to join the Groenkloof get together.
trip went well but i didn't join the 4x4 trail with my vehicle.

after the trip i installed new tie-rods as mine where finished (although steering is still crap, have to service the steering box)
also my front shock mounts broke. that was a quick fix and made my ride less bouncy.

next step was lift kit and what a kak job that is.

While placing the lift kit i decided to give the springs a nice red colour. but as i was Buggering around on soft sand and uneven (to lazy to move the car on solid ground) it took longer then expected and also resulting in the Niva falling almost on top of me. and after struggling the nicely painted springs got damage.
BUT at the end the vehicle got raised.

next test 4X4 at Berakah.

Before going to Berakah, i damage the back boot of my Niva.
so some body work needs to be done.

driving down to Berakah Parys went fantastically well.
The following day while driving 4x4 it preformed like a dream. Until the Alternator regulator got busted. i managed to drive half way back to J'burg. but just before the toll gate the Lada Recovery vehicle had to tow me.
Although i was towed back to J'burg the berakah day went fantastic and my Niva finished the 4x4 course. It was great fun. We should do it again soon.

After being towed back by the Lada Niva recovery vehicle (Conrads Pajero), Conrad helped fix the Alternator regulator.
Driving back from Krugersdorp i started to hear a tikking sound in the engine. it became louder and louder. many gave advice on what it could be but without opening the engine we could not find out what the issue was.
Bryce offered to swop his engine as his lada had a accident. then at least i could go to the 1st National LOCSA event in Clarens.

all was good prepping the car just before leaving for the event.
5KM down the road in cosmo city my clutch was gone. a seal in the slave cylinder gave up.
meantime the Lada recovery vehicle also had some trouble, but once fixed conrad came and towed me to his workshop.
we replaced the slave cylinder (thanks riaan who came all the way from vereeneging) fixed the Pajero as the event needed a lada recovery vehicle and left at 14H00.
although so we thought. As i placed my key in the ignition my ignition gave up locking the steering.
so i came with the Lada recovery vehicle as a passenger.

The National event was fantastic meeting lots of new lada people with their nivas. driving fantastic scenic 4x4 routes.
I just had very VERY bad luck with my Niva.
but during all this it showed how close the Lada club and community is as many helped and or offered help.
in 2018 ill be present at the National LOCSA event in MY LADA.

After the National LOCSA event, we took the engine apart and found the HORROR.
All was FUBAR'd

while in Europe i got spare parts from Jan (Lada Power Belgium stock holder). also came across a Niva in my old town Amersfoort, Holland.

once back engine was stripped further doing a full recon, also re-sleeved the engine.
engine is like new will fit it soon after Bryce Engine is taken out and serviced the steering box. hopefully with new bearings and all will help the crappy steering.

More to follow.

right so before i place the engine back in, i took the opportunity to fix the crappy steering box.

first it was a mission getting the steering box out as it was NOT REMOVED IN YEARS.
(in 2014 jan from lada centurion was requested to fix my steering box. 4200 rand later hardly anything changed. i ended up with grease leaking out the box. 4200 rand worth of grease. thanks jan when you read this please feel free to comment.)

once the steering box was out it was discovered that 1 of the bearings was broken into pieces. we replaced the parts put it back together, placed it back and found out that the brass bushes was finished.
took the box out took it to steeringbox specialist and now we checking if we can replace the brass bushes with needle bearings or if we go with solid brass bushes. awaiting feedback from them and will let you all know. if you have crappy steering it might be the bushes and not the worm as discussed many times in the passed.

hope this will solve the crappy steering.
